Greetings from the Women Chemists Committee!
Welcome to the first of our new blog entries on our brand new website. Some of you who are involved with other American Chemical Society (ACS) units, may know that the older websites hosted on the Webs platform are no longer being supported. So our old site will no longer be updated and will instead be replaced by our new site. Our new site is located here: https://acswcc.org This new site will allow us to post our news in the form of a blog. Due to this new format and the evolution of how people consume media we will use this blog to post our longer news articles that used to be contained in the WCC newsletter. Shorter news releases can be found on our social media channels (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter).
As we approach the 2019 ACS National Meeting in San Diego, the WCC has many exciting events planned. You can find the full listing of events at the Fall 2019 Roadmap featured on our new site.
On Sunday, August 25th we will have the winners of the WCC Merck Research Award present their research during a special WCC-sponsored symposium. Please join us to witness firsthand future leaders of the chemical enterprise. On Monday August 26th the Women in the Chemical Enterprise Breakfast (a ticketed event) will focus on networking. Following the WCC breakfast is the Women Chemists of Color (WCofC) Networking Event. This WCofC event is open to everyone and no ticket is required. On Tuesday August 27th of the national meeting WCC hosts a poster session showcasing the research of the Fall 2019 Eli Lilly travel award winners immediately before the WCC Luncheon (a ticketed event). WCC is very honored to feature Dr. Frances Arnold, winner of the 2018 Nobel prize in Chemistry, as our keynote speaker for the WCC luncheon. Dr. Arnold will present, “One Step at a Time: Innovation, Evolution and Adaptation.” After the WCC Luncheon, the WCC is sponsoring a symposium, “WCC: Eli Lilly: Supporting Women in Chemistry,” which is part of our year-long celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the WCC/Eli Lilly & Company travel award. Finally our WCC national meeting program will conclude with the “WCC Just Cocktails in honor of the 30th Anniversary of the Eli Lilly Award.”
Once again, I am honored to serve the WCC, and I look forward to an incredible year of WCC programs, products and services. I welcome your ideas and suggestions!
